Church Directory ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Church Directory application and website at churchdirectory.app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our service.
Information We Collect
When using our website and application, we may collect the following types of personally identifiable information:
- Email address — used to send one-time sign-in codes and service communications
- First and last name — used to identify you within your church's directory
- Profile information — such as prayer requests, interests, phone number, and address, which you or your church administrator enter into the app
- Planning Center data — if your church uses Planning Center, we sync your roster, photos, family relationships, and join date from Planning Center's API on behalf of your church administrator
We may also collect usage data automatically, including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date of visits, and other diagnostic data.
How We Use Your Information
Church Directory uses collected data to:
- Provide and maintain the application and website
- Send one-time sign-in code emails and service notifications
- Allow you to participate in the church directory, prayer, and name-learning features
- Provide customer support
- Improve the service through aggregate usage analysis
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues
- Comply with legal obligations
Church Administrator Control
Your data within the Church Directory app is managed by your church administrator — the person at your church who set up the account. Church administrators can add, edit, or remove member records at any time. If you have questions about the data your church has stored about you, please contact your church administrator directly.
Planning Center Integration
Church Directory integrates with Planning Center to sync member rosters. When your church administrator connects Planning Center, we access your church's member data (names, photos, families, join dates) via Planning Center's API. We do not store your Planning Center credentials. Data synced from Planning Center is subject to Planning Center's Privacy Policy as well as this one.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — we use third-party companies to operate the service, including those listed below. These parties access personal data only as needed to perform services on our behalf and are contractually obligated not to disclose or use it otherwise.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose data when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Church Directory, its users, or the public.
Third-Party Service Providers
Church Directory relies on the following key service providers:
- Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider. Member records, profile data, and authentication tokens are stored on Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase is hosted on AWS and subject to Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Stripe — used to process subscription payments for church administrators. When you pay for a Church Directory subscription, your payment information (credit card details, billing address) is collected and stored by Stripe, not by Church Directory. We never see or store your full card number. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Planning Center — used to sync church rosters (see the Planning Center Integration section above).
- Sentry — used for production error monitoring on the member web app (and, when enabled, the native app). Reports include technical crash details (stack traces, route names, app version) and are configured not to include member names, prayers, testimonies, or email addresses. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
Data Transfer
Your information, including personal data, may be processed and stored on servers located in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your use of the service constitutes consent to this transfer and processing.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your church's account is active or as needed to provide the service. When a church's subscription ends (after grace or voluntary cancel), the church enters a soft-delete cooling-off period of about 30 days, then data is hard-deleted from our systems. You may also request personal deletion at any time — see the section below and our Account Deletion page.
Cookies and Analytics
The marketing website does not use product analytics or advertising trackers (no Google Analytics, Plausible, or similar). The web application uses browser local storage for authentication tokens. Production apps may send technical error reports to Sentry (configured not to include member prayers, testimonies, or email addresses). We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed to anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at info@churchdirectory.app and we will remove it promptly.
Account Deletion
To request deletion of your personal data from Church Directory, please visit our Account Deletion page or email info@churchdirectory.app. We will work with your church administrator to remove your information.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
